Coachwork On Ferrari V12 Road Cars 1948-89 & Vignale Masterpieces of Style 2 Book Set

Of all the great cars to bear the Ferrari name, none are as much loved, as widely respected or as lusted after as the classic V12 road cars built between 1948 and 1989. Their stunning performance was matched by the equally stunning beauty of their hand-crafted coachwork, which came from the finest carrozzerie in Italy - and, occasionally, elsewhere. Their creations on Ferrari chassis have frequently achieved the sublime. Here the coachbuilders, among them Bertone, Farina, Ghia, Scaglietti, Pinin Farina, Touring and Vignale, are dealt with in A-Z order, with their history, designers and design philosophy reviewed, accompanied by colour photography of outstanding cars featuring their coachwork and shot from a number of angles including the interiors. The photography is by the leading British car photographer Simon Clay, and the text by the well-known automotive historian Dr James Taylor, whose A-Z of European Coachbuilders is being prepared for publication. Coachwork on Ferrari V12 Road Cars presents an authoritative review of the often faultless, sometimes audacious, styling of what are now the most treasured and most expensive classic cars in the world.

The history of Vignale, the coachbuilder that bodied the first unforgettable Ferraris of the 1950s – responsible for cars such as the 166 and 212 Inter, the 250 and the 340 MM – narrated through rare archive photos, many of which previously unpublished. The Masterpieces of Style series dedicated to the greats of Italian coachbuilding – including Zagato, Pininfarina Touring and Giugiaro – could hardly not have a title devoted to the Turinese atelier founded in 1946 by Alfredo Vignale. This book covers, model by model, the entire output of an illustrious marque that was at its peak in the Fifties and Sixties when, thanks above all to the extraordinary talent of Giovanni Michelotti, it produced numerous bodies for Ferrari chassis, along with diverse Fiats with special versions of the 500 and 600. Not to forget the various Lancias such as the Appia and the Flavia Convertible and the prolific collaboration with Triumph. W3 The history of Vignale, the Italian coachbuilder that bodied the first unforgettable Ferraris of the 1950s and 1960's, thanks above all to the extraordinary talent of designer Giovanni Michelotti.
