This book grew out of my love for classic muscle car styling and power but the recognition that huge strides have been made in automotive technology since the 1960s. Even back then, few folks kept their muscle cars completely stock -- folks bolted on Cragar S/S or Torque Thrust wheels with 50-series rubber in the back, added air shocks and "Cherry Bomb" mufflers. These were all primitive (and now nostalgic) upgrades, intended to improve performance.
This book is intended to point out the various ways in which vintage muscle cars can be fitted with modern components and technology to improve them, all without significantly altering the rugged, muscular appearances that draw us to these cars in the first place.
And while I show and discuss a number of possible upgrades in the book, those are a snapshot of what was available at the time the book was being written. Knowing that many more options would eventually become available, I wrote the book to explain what to think about and look for in an upgrade, so that it would still apply today, with an abundance of new options that weren't even envisioned just a few short years ago.
In the end, I hope you find the book interesting and inspiring. This is still one of my favorite books to flip through when dreaming up what to do to any of many various muscle cars. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do.
And I'd love to read your feedback in the reviews sections, as well as any suggestions or requests that you might have, which might help shape a second edition.
