Review by James Jewell for BritishV8.org, January 2005 My summary-level review is quite simple: Great book, buy it. This book is an excellent resource for the Triumph restorer. You should not expect this book to walk you step-by-step through a brake overhaul, or provide the torque settings for an engine rebuild. That is what a shop manual is for. Rather, this book provides you with a wise mentor to give you the confidence to do an entire restoration and guide you around the common-yet-subtle pitfalls of a complex project He'll be with you when you go shopping for a project car, and you won't have to worry about waking him up at 2:00 AM when you're working late in the garage on a weekend. Features - Covers bodywork, chassis, mechanical components and interior. - Based on the real hands-on experience of five TR restoration specialists. - Tells the reader how to choose the project car, how to restore it on a do-it-yourself basis and what jobs to leave to the experts. - Coverage includes the use of new chassis and bodies. - Explains how to create a restoration plan. - Appendix lists specialist suppliers of parts and services. Synopsis This book which covers all Triumph TR5/250 and TR6 models, explains the characteristics of the various TR sportscars, what to look out for when purchasing & how to restore a TR cost effectively. As well as his own substantial experience and that of other amateur restorers, the author had the help of various TR specialists and professional restorers. All this knowledge, allied to substantial photographic coverage, allows Roger Williams to provide truly detailed coverage of complete restoration and good advice on how to overcome common problems. Note that the TR5 model was known as the TR250 in the USA.

Author: Roger Williams

Author Bio: Roger Williams was born in 1940. Aircraft were his first love, and he joined the de Havilland Aircraft Company after leaving school, but quickly added motor cars to his list of prime interests. He completed his apprenticeship and studies, and built two Ford-based 'specials' before family and career interests took pride of place. However in 1986 he started his own consultancy business, which allowed him to restore numerous MGBs, a Triumph TR6 and a Triumph Stag. An acknowledged expert in his field, he has written several books covering both Triumph and MGB models, including titles for Veloce’s SpeedPro series, Enthusiast’s Restoration Manual series, and The Essential Buyer’s Guides.
