Coronet: definition: a small or lesser crown usually worn by those of lesser royal rank. That could be said of the Dodge Coronet, as it was out ranked by the grander models that were above it.  However, in 1968 that changed with all new design that had much in common with its sister ship the Charger.  They both feature masculine lines that look at more home on a race car, then a streetcar.  It was time in history that everyone was trying catch two models, the Ford Mustang, and the Pontiac GTO. It would take two more years before Dodge releases a competitor for the Mustang.  However, in 1967 they began the fight against the GTO with the Coronet R/T which stood for Road and Track as they tried to horn in on the ‘win on Sunday sell on Monday fad.

At this time Plymouth was busy trying to create the Road Runner, to keep cost down for the ‘beep-beep” car Dodge was offered to share the costs.  What the came up was a cartoon character a radical very angry bumble bee that they called a Super Bee.
